Faf du Plessis has been docked 40 percent of his match fee

South Africa captain Faf du Plessis has been fined 40 percent of his match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate in the second Test against India in Centurion.

The Proteas won the match by 135 runs, but Du Plessis’ side were found to be two overs short of their target after time allowances had been taken into consideration.

The rest of the South African team will each be docked 20 percent of their match fee as a result of the offence.

Du Plessis accepted the offence and sanction imposed by match referee Chris Broad, meaning that there will be no need for a formal hearing.

However, should Du Plessis commit another over-rate offence in the next 12 months, he will be suspended.

With South Africa triumphing in the second Test, they now hold an unassailable 2-0 lead going into the third and final Test in Johannesburg, which will begin on January 24.
