Shoaib Malik “is doing well and is resting”

Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik has displayed symptoms of a delayed concussion after he was struck on the head while batting during the fourth ODI against New Zealand in Hamilton.

Malik was hit on the head by a throw from Colin Munro in the 32nd over, but continued batting after initially staying down and receiving medical treatment. Malik made six runs before he was dismissed by New Zealand captain Kane Williamson.

After Malik was struck on the head, the ball deflected all the way to the boundary. Despite continuing to bat, the 35-year-old was not on the field when Pakistan came out to field.

“Shoaib was assessed by the match doctor and myself,” Pakistan physiotherapist VB Singh was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz. “He did not have any symptoms of a concussion and was able to carry on playing. After getting out, he was reassessed and was showing delayed concussion signs. He is doing well and is resting. As advised by the match doctor and Pakistan team physiotherapist, he will not be taking any further part in the match.”
