India have called up Dinesh Karthik to replace fellow wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha for the ongoing Test series against South Africa.

Saha was ruled out of the second Test in Centurion due to a hamstring injury and was subsequently replaced by Parthiv Patel.

With Saha having been diagnosed with an upper left hamstring tendon injury, he will play no further part in the three-Test series.

“Wriddhiman Saha suffered an upper left hamstring tendon injury during training on Thursday, January 11. The BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor his progress,” a statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said.

As a result, Karthik will be hoping to play in his first Test match since January 2010 when the third Test commences on January 24 in Johannesburg.

Karthik has also been included in India’s squad for the six-match ODI series, which begins on February 1 in Durban.
