England have endured a disastrous tour of Australia as they lost the Ashes 4-0 and have been plagued by off-field issues. Despite this, Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis is showing no sympathy and has called on his side to show England no mercy in the upcoming five-match ODI series.

Stoinis will come into the ODI series on a high as he has scored 179 runs in five matches for the Melbourne Stars at an average of 44.75.

“It’s good timing for us, winning the Ashes and coming to this one-day series,” Stoinis was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. “It’s been a long tour for them so far and there’s probably some new players over as well, so yeah…foot on the throat, let’s make it a good one.”

Stoinis made his ODI debut in September 2015, but after playing just one game, he disappeared from the international scene until January 2017.

Since then, he has started to become a regular face in the ODI squad and is now looking to cement his place in the side.

With the 2019 World Cup fast approaching, Stoinis knows that he has to take advantage of every opportunity he gets.

In order to accomplish this, Stoinis has been receiving some pointers from former England batsman Kevin Pietersen, who is also playing for the Stars.

“He’s been unbelievable for me, he’s been unbelievably generous with his time and he hasn’t needed to be,” he said. “That’s probably been over the last 12 months, we’ve built a stronger relationship and have had continual conversations about cricket and perspective.

“He’s been through everything, from the front page to the back page of the paper. He’s a smart cricketer – there’s a reason why he’s as good as he is. He’s been good for me.”
