England batsman James Vince slammed Australia for the way in which they celebrated their Ashes victory.
After winning the series 4-0 in the fifth and final Test in Sydney, a large display featuring hands with the Australia and England flag depicted the series scoreline.
Many were unimpressed and thought it was in bad taste as it went against the ideology of there being mutual respect between two teams.
Vince tends to agree, and was quoted by Yahoo Seven Sport as saying: “Well, Australia and English maybe take winning slightly differently.
“I think the public and that try and rub it in a bit more. I think the English are probably slightly more graceful in winning.
“But we knew what to expect when we came here. That’s just the way it is out here so it is what it is.”
Meanwhile, England head coach Trevor Bayliss hinted that Vince would be retained in the Test squad for the upcoming tour of New Zealand.
Vince struggled to have an impact with the bat during the Ashes as he scored 242 runs at an average of 26.88. To make matters worse, his best score of 83 came on the opening day of the first Test in Brisbane.
“While I was out there I felt comfortable and in good nick, but obviously I run myself out in the first game when I could have gone on and got a big hundred,” the 26-year-old said. “It would’ve given me a bit more confidence as the series went on. Fifty-odd (55) at Perth, (I would have liked) converting those 50s, 60s into 100s, and 20s and 30s into a bit more of a contribution.
“I’ll have a look at my game slightly, assess that and move forward to the next series.”
