Rashid Khan took two wickets during an economical spell and Colin Ingram smashed an entertaining 48 as the Adelaide Strikers defeated the Sydney Thunder by 25 runs.

The Strikers’ win lifted them to the top of the Big Bash League table, while the Thunder now occupy fifth place.

Choosing to bat first, the Strikers got off to a brisk start before opener Jake Weatherald was was caught behind off the bowling of Gurinder Sandhu for 15.

Strikers captain Travis Head only scored 12 runs before he was caught by Kurtis Patterson at long-on off the bowling of Fawad Ahmed.

Fawad struck again five balls later as he clean bowled Alex Carey, who opened the batting with Weatherald, for a 28-ball 34.

Jonathan Wells and Michael Neser fell shortly after, but Colin Ingram gave the Strikers a major spark with his 31-ball 48, which included two boundaries and four sixes.

Despite Ingram eventually being dismissed in the 19th over, Rashid belted 16 runs off just six balls to help the Strikers finish on 158/7.

Fawad was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Sandhu took two and Chris Green chipped in with one.

Chasing 159 to win, the Thunder made a solid start to their innings before Jos Buttler was clean bowled by Rashid for 21.

Patterson, who opened the batting with Buttler, went on to score 29 before being caught by Wells at deep backward square leg off the bowling of Billy Stanlake.

The Thunder began to crumble after Patterson’s dismissal as they lost wickets at regular intervals.

Ben Rohrer provided some fireworks with his knock of 29 off 13 balls, which included a boundary and three sixes, but it went in vain as his side fell short of their target.

Neser was the most successful bowler with three wickets, while Rashid and Peter Siddle snapped up two wickets apiece. As for Stanlake and Ben Laughlin, they claimed one wicket each.

Rashid was named Man of the Match.
