All-rounder Ben Stokes has been removed from England’s ODI squad for the upcoming series against Australia.

Stokes, who is set to be replaced by batsman Dawid Malan, was initially included in the side, but the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said his participation in the series would depend on whether the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) charges him for his role in a street fight outside a nightclub in Bristol.

Stokes recently played for Canterbury in New Zealand’s domestic one-day and Twenty20 competitions as he was granted a no-objection certificate by the ECB.

Alex Hales was also present during the incident, but was not charged by the police and is therefore expected to feature in the series.

The five-match series will get underway on January 14 in Melbourne.
