Mitchell Johnson proved that he hasn’t missed a beat as he took three wickets during a highly economical spell to lead the Perth Scorchers to a three-wicket win over the Melbourne Renegades.

Opting to bowl first, the Scorchers got an early breakthrough as Johnson had Renegades captain Aaron Finch caught behind for a duck on the sixth ball of the match.

Johnson struck again in his next over as he removed Cameron White for three runs.

Tom Cooper and Marcus Harris came to the rescue for the Renegades as they amassed a 63-run partnership before Cooper was clean bowled by Andrew Tye for 34.

With Harris falling shortly after for 32, the Renegades began to lose wickets in a hurry and were therefore restricted to 130/9 off their 20 overs.

Johnson and Tye picked up three wickets apiece, while David Willey, Jhye Richardson and Ashton Agar chipped in with one wicket each.

Chasing 131 to win, the Scorchers got off to a fantastic start as Willey and Michael Klinger put together a 58-run partnership before Willey was cleaned up by Brad Hogg for 31.

Ashton Agar only made 13 before becoming Hogg’s second victim, while Klinger was caught behind off the bowling of Mohammad Nabi for 37.

Even though the Scorchers continued to lose wickets at regular intervals, they managed to get across the finish line with an over to spare.

Hogg was the most successful bowler with two wickets, while Nabi, Dwayne Bravo and Jack Wildermuth claimed one wicket each.

Johnson was named Man of the Match.
