Chandika Hathurusingha will begin his job as Sri Lanka’s head coach on December 20

Sri Lanka’s search for a permanent head coach has come to an end after Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) revealed that Chandika Hathurusingha has signed a three-year deal.

Hathurusingha’s most recent coaching stint was with Bangladesh, but he tendered his resignation in October when the national team were touring South Africa.

The 49-year-old will begin his new job on December 20 during Sri Lanka’s three-match Twenty20 series against India. After that, Sri Lanka will travel to Bangladesh for a two-Test series in January.

An SLC official confirmed that Hathurusingha will be the highest paid Sri Lanka coach in history.

Hathurusingha is scheduled to visit Dhaka on Saturday to be released from his contract with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), which was supposed to run until the 2019 World Cup.

With Hathurusingha having inked a three-year deal, he will be Sri Lanka’s head coach until the end of 2020.
