The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have asked Richard Pybus why he left his job as head coach of the national team just five months into his tenure back in 2012.

The BCB questioned Pybus as he is one of three candidates in the running to replace Chandika Hathurusingha as Bangladesh’s head coach.

From June to October 2012, Pybus was in charge of the Bangladesh team, but he claimed that he left the position due to disagreements with the BCB. He also questioned whether the board directors had a real understanding of the game and claimed that details of his contract were leaked to the public.

However, BCB president Nazmul Hassan refused to confirm if this was true and nor did he mention what Pybus had told the board after meeting with them.

What Hassan did say was that Pybus’ presentation was based on his future goals for Bangladesh.

“Of course we had [his resignation from Bangladesh] in mind,” Hassan said. “We asked him plenty of questions about it. But it is better we don’t talk about the previous board. He is saying the same things [about the board]. I asked him, then why do you want to come now? He had his answer, but I don’t think we need to talk about it.”

Hassan also revealed that the BCB will interview two more candidates, including former West Indies and Ireland head coach Phil Simmons on December 9.

The BCB will hold a meeting the following day and could potentially decide on who will take over as head coach.

“It is hard to say whether we are going to appoint a coach before the Sri Lanka series [in January 2018] but we are trying to get someone soon,” Hassan said. “Simmons will arrive on December 9 while another coach is also supposed to arrive within this time. We won’t reveal his name. We want to take a decision on our December 10 meeting.”
