BJ Watling will not don the keeping gloves during the first Test against the West Indies after he was deemed unfit due to his hip problem.
Watling will remain part of New Zealand’s Test squad and could be picked as a specialist batsman.
As for the man who will replace him behind the stumps, it is likely that the uncapped Tom Blundell will be handed the responsibility.
However, it is set to only be confirmed after New Zealand A’s match against the West Indies.
New Zealand’s two-Test series against the West Indies will begin on December 1 in Wellington. The second Test will be held in Hamilton and get underway on December 9.
Following the Test series, the two sides will face each other in three ODIs and three Twenty20 Internationals.
