Australia will no doubt be looking to get under Joe Root’s skin and inside his head during the Ashes series, but the England captain is ready for the challenge that awaits him in the five-Test series.

Australia spinner Nathan Lyon identified Root as the key player in England’s side and admitted that the Baggy Greens will be targeting him throughout the series.

Not being one to back down, Root is unconcerned about Australia’s plans and insists that England will not change their approach no matter what the Australians do out on the field.

“I’ve heard a lot of chat about targeting me in particular but I know from our point of view we’ll be targeting every single one of them,” Root was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. “We won’t be singling any guys out. To win a Test match you’ve got to take 20 wickets and score more runs than them, that’s the exact approach we’ll have as a side.

“Of course we’ll have plans for each individual player, but bring it on, it’s what it’s all about. You want that competitive edge to it and those little in-house rivalries.”

The first Test between Australia and England gets underway on November 23 in Brisbane.
