Kieran Powell scored an unbeaten 43 as the West Indies got off to a solid start after bowling Zimbabwe out for 326 on the second day of the second Test in Bulawayo.

Starting off the day on 169/4, Hamilton Masakadza and Sikandar Raza converted their 13-run partnership into a 90-run stand before Masakadza was caught behind off the bowling of Devendra Bishoo for 147, which came off 240 balls and included 16 boundaries and two sixes.

Malcolm Waller fell the very next over for a golden duck, while wicketkeeper Regis Chakabva was clean bowled by Bishoo for 10.

Raza went on to score 80 off 147 deliveries, which included six boundaries and a six, before he was caught by Kyle Hope at second slip off the bowling of Shannon Gabriel.

Zimbabwe skipper Graeme Cremer only made 11 before being run out by West Indies captain Jason Holder.

Zimbabwe ended up being bowled out for 326 when Tendai Chiroso was given out lbw off the bowling of Kemar Roach for nine runs.

Chiroso reviewed the decision, but it didn’t change anything as replays showed that the ball was pitching in line and going on to crash into leg stump.

Roach was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Bishoo and Gabriel snapped up two wickets apiece. As for Roston Chase and Kraigg Brathwaite, they chipped in with one wicket each.

With his two wickets, Bishoo became the first leg-spinner and fifth spinner overall from the West Indies to take 100 Test wickets.

Trailing by 326 runs, the West Indies made an excellent start to their innings as Brathwaite and Powell amassed a 76-run partnership before Brathwaite was caught by Masakadza at slip off the bowling of Cremer for 32.

Powell and Bishoo, who was sent in as the nightwatchman, ensured the West Indies made it safely to stumps as they put together an unbeaten two-run partnership.

Powell finished on 43 off 123 balls, which included four boundaries, while Bishoo has yet to get off the mark.

Cremer was the only bowler to take a wicket.

The West Indies ended day two on 78/1 and will continue batting on Tuesday at 09:30 local time or 07:30 GMT.
