Roston Chase and Kraigg Brathwaite scored 91 not out and 86 respectively as the West Indies punished Zimbabwe and extended their lead to 429 runs on the third day in Bulawayo.
Starting off the day on 88/1, the West Indies lost batsman Kyle Hope early on as he was trapped lbw off the bowling of Kyle Jarvis for 43.
Brathwaite and Shai Hope made up for the loss of Hope with a 67-run partnership, during which Brathwaite cruised past his fifty.
However, as he was nearing the triple-figure mark, Brathwaite’s time at the crease came to an end as he was given out lbw off the bowling of Sikandar Raza for 86, which came off 229 balls and included four boundaries and a six.
Hope went on to make 44, while Jermaine Blackwood could only muster three runs. As for wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich, his lean patch with the bat continued as he was dismissed by Sean Williams for 12 runs.
West Indies captain Jason Holder struck a quickfire 24 before he was caught by Chris Mpofu at point off the bowling of Zimbabwe skipper Graeme Cremer.
With the men from the Caribbean having lost wickets at regular intervals, Chase and Devendra Bishoo put an end to that trend by amassing a 92-run partnership.
However, in the final over of the day, Bishoo had a lapse of concentration and it cost him big time as he was caught by Williams off the bowling of Cremer for 45.
With stumps being called immediately after Bishoo’s dismissal, Chase was left unbeaten on 91, which came off 127 balls and included eight boundaries and a six.
Cremer was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Williams and Jarvis snapped up two wickets apiece. As for Raza, he chipped in with one wicket.
The West Indies ended day three on 369/8 and will continue batting on Tuesday at 09:30 local time or 07:30 GMT.
