Sri Lanka opener Danushka Gunathilaka has been fined and suspended for six limited overs matches for misconduct and breaching his contract.
This is the reason why he was dropped from Sri Lanka’s squad for the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan.
Gunathilaka, who has averaged 42.41 in 12 ODIs this year, was suspended after he missed a training session, came to a match without any of his gear and having little interest in training.
All of these problems occurred during Sri Lanka’s recent home series against India.
“The board had asked the selectors not to consider Danushka for six white-ball games,” Sri Lanka’s cricket manager Asanka Gurusinha was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. “Yes, is for disciplinary reasons that they made that decision.”
A media release from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) added: “Sri Lanka Cricket today announced the suspension of Mr. Danushka Gunathilaka from International Cricket for six International Matches together with a 20% fine of his applicable annual contract fee for violations of Section 30 (a-ii ) and 30 (b) of the Constitution of Sri Lanka Cricket and of clauses 3.1.2, 3.1.9, 3.3.1, and 3.4 of his contract with Sri Lanka Cricket during the recently concluded India Series in Colombo.”
