Zimbabwe have been given a major boost for the second week in a row after it was confirmed that pace bowler Kyle Jarvis would be resurrecting his international career after spending four years with Lancashire.
Jarvis’ current deal with the county side was supposed to expire at the end of the 2018 season, but Lancashire released him after learning of his ambitions to play for Zimbabwe again.
Jarvis signed a Kolpak deal with Lancashire in 2013 as Zimbabwe were in the midst of a financial crisis and were unable to pay their players properly.
Seeking financial stability and opportunities to play cricket on a more consistent basis, Jarvis headed to England after signing with Lancashire. In the four years he was there, the 28-year-old established himself as one of their most instrumental players.
In this year’s county season, Jarvis took 33 wickets in nine County Championship matches at an average of 23.60. He also claimed seven wickets in five Royal London One-Day Cup games at an average of 28.85.
“I have absolutely loved my time at Lancashire over the last four years,” Jarvis said. “It’s a very special place and I have made some fantastic friends here. I am immensely proud to have played a part in the history of this great club. I would like to thank everyone that for making me feel part of it.”
Jarvis’ decision to head back to Zimbabwe comes after former captain Brendan Taylor ended his deal with Nottinghamshire in order to return home and be with his family.
Taylor, who joined Nottinghamshire on Kolpak deal after the 2015 World Cup, is expected to make his international comeback in the two-Test series against the West Indies next month.
As for Jarvis, it remains to be seen when he will don the Zimbabwe jersey again.
Regardless of whether he returns during the Test series against the West Indies or at a later date, Zimbabwe will no doubt be glad to have one of their premier fast bowlers back.
