Australia have been dealt a big blow ahead of the last two ODIs against India as all-rounder Ashton Agar will miss the matches with a fractured right little finger.
Agar sustained the injury while fielding in the third ODI in Indore, which India won by five wickets.
Agar did go off the field to seek treatment, but returned to bowl. However, after scans confirmed the injury, he will be sidelined for the final two ODIs.
“Ashton injured his right little finger whilst fielding in the match last night,” team doctor Richard Saw was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. “Following the conclusion of the match he went for x-rays which have confirmed a fracture of the finger. He will return home to Australia and consult a specialist with a possibility of surgery.”
India’s victory in the third ODI saw them take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series and move to the top of the ODI rankings.
The last two ODIs will be held in Bangalore and Nagpur on September 28 and October 1 respectively.
