Australia left-arm seamer Mitchell Starc has been ruled out of the upcoming limited overs series in India as he has yet to sufficiently recover from a foot injury.

Starc has been out of action since the conclusion of the Champions Trophy in June as it was revealed that a stress fracture he sustained during Australia’s tour of India earlier this year had not healed properly.

With Australia hosting the Ashes in November, Starc has been given extra time to rest and recuperate as the Baggy Greens will want him to be fit and ready to go when he returns.

“We have recently reviewed the progress of Mitchell’s right foot injury and the healing process has been slower than we would have liked,” Beakley was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. “Consequently, in order to ensure his best possible preparation for the Ashes, he will be unavailable for the tour of India and will continue his rehab in Australia, with an aim to have him play for New South Wales in the domestic one-day cup.”

Starc’s partner in crime Josh Hazlewood has also been sidelined for the series as he suffered a side strain midway through the first Test against Bangladesh in Dhaka.

Meanwhile, all-rounder James Faulkner is back in the ODI squad after being overlooked for the Champions Trophy and missing out on a central contract.

Fast bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile also made the cut, even though he has not played ODI cricket since June 2016.

In regards to the Twenty20 squad, Australia have brought in uncapped pace bowler Jason Behrendorff, while veteran all-rounder Dan Christian and wicketkeeper-batsman Tim Paine are also in the side.

Christian has not played in a Twenty20 International since April 2014, while Paine last featured in the format against Sri Lanka back in February this year.
