The Trinbago Knight Riders have been dealt a huge blow after opener Brendon McCullum was ruled out for the rest of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) with a broken arm.
McCullum sustained the injury while batting during the Knight Riders’ 16-run loss to the Barbados Tridents on Sunday.
The former New Zealand captain was struck on the elbow by Wayne Parnell, but continued to bat after receiving treatment on the field. However, a few balls later, he was forced to retire hurt on 26 off 19 balls, which included three boundaries and a six.
McCullum was subsequently taken to hospital, where he underwent x-rays, which confirmed the injury.

“CPL over for this year, unfort. Been a ride with Knight Riders brothers! Many thanks to all for your support! Luck team!” McCullum said on Twitter.
McCullum played an instrumental role in the Knight Riders’ campaign as he was the franchise’s highest scorer with 335 runs in 10 matches at an average of 55.83.
Chasing 137 to win, the Knight Riders were on 41/2 when McCullum left the field. They failed to get across the finish line in the end as they were skittled out for 120 following an incredible collapse.
Parnell was named Man of the Match as he rescued the Tridents from a precarious position with an unbeaten 44. He then proceeded to take three wickets, removing Sunil Narine, Colin Munro and Ashley Nurse for nine, two and six runs respectively.
The Knight Riders, who sit at the summit of the points table, have already qualified for the knockout stage of the CPL as their loss to the Tridents was just their second of the competition.
Despite their victory, the Tridents are likely to be eliminated as they sit in fifth place on the standings and are two points behind the Guyana Amazon Warriors, who have a superior run-rate.
