Tamim Iqbal now has two demerit points on his record

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal 15 per cent of his match fee for breaching their Code of Conduct.
Tamim, who was also handed a demerit point, was charged for “conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game”, which occurred on the fourth day of Bangladesh’s historic win over Australia.
The 28-year-old now has two demerit points to his name as he picked up another one during the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo on March 16.
If Tamim accumulates four demerit points in a 24-month period, he will be banned for one Test, two ODIs or two Twenty20 Internationals.
According to the ICC release, in the first session on the day, Tamim “debated continuously with the umpires while the Australian batsmen were changing their gloves regularly. Shortly thereafter, he approached Matthew Wade and gestured towards him to leave the field upon his dismissal”.
The charge against Tamim was levelled by on-field umpires Aleem Dar and Nigel Llong, third umpire Ian Gould, and fourth umpire Anisur Rahman.
With Tamim accepting the charge and sanctions imposed by match referee Jeff Crowe, there will be no need for a formal hearing.
Tamim had a huge impact with the bat in the match as he scored 71 in the first innings before following it up with a fantastic 78 in the second.
However, a lot of credit should be given to all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan too as he took five wickets in each innings and struck an excellent 84 in Bangladesh’s first innings.
With the duo combining brilliantly, Bangladesh made history as they won the first Test by 20 runs and subsequently registered their first victory over Australia in the longest format.
With the first Test being an absolute cracker of a match, Bangladesh will be looking to complete a 2-0 whitewash in the second Test in Chittagong. Australia, on the other hand, will have their sights set on redemption after falling just short of victory in Dhaka.
The second Test will begin on September 4.
