West Indies captain Jason Holder has been reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the remarks he made on the fourth day of the second Test against England at Headingley.

The incident came in the 70th over of England’s second innings where Holder, on two occasions, made “inappropriate comments in frustration” that were heard by the on-field umpires.

As a result, Holder was found guilty of breaching Article 2.1.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “using language or a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during an International Match”.

The 25-year-old had one demerit point put to his record due to the remarks he made. Should he receive three more demerit points within a 24-month period, he will be banned for one Test, two ODIs or two Twenty20 Internationals.

The charge against Holder was levelled by on-field umpires Chris Gaffaney and S. Ravi, third umpire Marais Erasmus, and fourth umpire Nick Cook.

Since Holder accepted the charge and sanction proposed by match referee David Boon, there will be no need for a formal hearing.

Holder took two wickets during England’s second innings, which ended with the hosts declaring on 490/8 and setting the men from the Caribbean a target of 322 to win.

On the fifth day, the West Indies made history as they secured their first Test win over England since 2000 when they triumphed by five wickets.

Shai Hope led the way with an unbeaten 118, while opener Kraigg Brathwaite provided excellent support as he scored a magnificent 95.

With his knock of 118, Hope etched his name into the record books as he became the first batsman to score hundreds in each innings of a first-class match at Headingley.

The series is now tied at 1-1 and both the West Indies and England will be looking to win the series in the third and final Test at Lord’s, which begins on September 7.
