Nathan Lyon sliced through Bangladesh’s batting line-up with a six-wicket haul before David Warner struck an unbeaten 75 to leave Australia 156 runs away from victory.

Starting off the day on 45/1, Bangladesh lost Taijul Islam, who was sent in as the nightwatchman, early on as he was trapped lbw off the bowling of Lyon for four runs.

Shortly after, Imrul Kayes was on his way back to the pavilion after being caught by Warner at second slip off the bowling of Lyon for two runs.

Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim stabilised the innings with a 68-run partnership, during which Iqbal surpassed his fifty.

With Bangladesh’s lead beginning to swell, Australia were in desperate need of a wicket, and it was Pat Cummins who delivered it when Iqbal was caught behind off his bowling for 78, which came off 155 balls and included eight boundaries.

Iqbal was not given out initially, but Australia decided to review the decision and it went in their favour as replays showed that the ball had brushed Iqbal’s glove.

Shakib Al Hasan was unable to have an impact with the bat as he was caught by Cummins at cover off the bowling of Lyon for five runs.

Rahim went on to make 41 before being run out by Lyon, who then proceeded to spear through Bangladesh’s lower order.

With Sabbir Rahman and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who scored 22 and 26 respectively, being the only batsmen to offer some sort of resistance, Bangladesh managed to make 221 before being bowled out, which set Australia a target of 265 to win.

Lyon was easily the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Ashton Agar snapped up two and Cummins chipped in with one.

The very next over, the Baggy Greens were dealt another blow as Usman Khawaja was caught by Taijul Islam at deep backward square leg off the bowling of Shakib for one run.

Despite losing two wickets in quick succession, Warner and captain Steve Smith calmed things down with an unbeaten 81-run partnership, during which Warner brought up his half-century, before stumps was called.

Warner finished on 75 off 96 balls, which included 11 boundaries and a six, while Smith remained undefeated on 25 off 58 deliveries, which included a solitary boundary.

Mehidy and Shakib claimed one wicket each.

Australia ended day three on 109/2 and will continue batting on Wednesday at 10:00 local time or 04:00 GMT.
