Lalchand Rajput’s contract will expire at the end of the month

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has confirmed that they will not be extending head coach Lalchand Rajput’s contract.

The decision comes as a big surprise since the country recently received Test status and drew 1-1 in their maiden ODI series in the West Indies.

Overall, Afghanistan have won six out of the 10 limited overs series they played under the guidance of Rajput.

However, prior to the Champions Trophy in England in June, Rajput had applied for the India head coach position, but was unsuccessful as Ravi Shastri was awarded the job.

“ACB would like to thank Mr. Rajput for his satisfactory performance during his time as Afghanistan’s Head Coach,” a statement released by the board said.

Afghanistan could also feature in their maiden Test match later this year as earlier this month, they spoke to Zimbabwe Cricket.
