The Trinbago Knight Riders have secured the services of all-rounder Ashley Nurse, while the Barbados Tridents have signed batsman Tion Webster.
Nurse was brought in as a replacement for Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who will miss the entire 2017 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) after being selected for the upcoming two-Test series against Australia.
Knight Riders head coach Simon Katich confirmed that Nurse will be a valuable asset before adding that captain Dwayne Bravo had specifically picked him to be Mehidy’s replacement.
Nurse is expected to join up with the Knight Riders ahead of their clash with the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on August 23.
“Ashley gives us another spin option. He has been playing some league cricket in England so he comes fresh to us from there,” Katich said. “Dwayne Bravo was very keen to get him into the squad given that we have still got some big games coming up against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Jamaica Tallawahs and Barbados Tridents.”
Meanwhile, the Tridents opted to choose Webster after all-rounder Raymon Reifer was called up to the West Indies’ Test squad for the ongoing tour of England.
Reifer has yet to make his Test debut and although he featured in the West Indies’ warm-up match against Kent, he was not picked for the first Test at Edgbaston, which was the first day-night Test to be held in England.
The West Indies endured a horrendous time in the first Test as they lost by an innings and 209 runs after losing 19 wickets on the third day.
Webster has not played any professional Twenty20 cricket to date, but he did make first-class debut for Trinidad & Tobago in April 2017 and scored a century in his most recent match against Leeward Islands.
In regards to the points table, the Knight Riders, who have already qualified for the knockout stage, are at the summit with 12 points, while the Tridents are in fourth place with four points.
