Shadab Khan took one wicket during an extremely economical spell and followed it up with an unbeaten knock of 30 as the Trinbago Knight Riders cruised past the St Lucia Stars by four wickets.

Choosing to bowl first, the Knight Riders got an early breakthrough as Khary Pierre trapped Johnson Charles lbw for five runs.

Just as the Stars were beginning to recover, wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal was caught behind off the bowling of Kevon Cooper for 17.

Marlon Samuels and Jesse Ryder failed to have an impact with the bat, while Andre Fletcher, who had opened the batting, managed to make 40 off 45 balls, which included three boundaries and a six.

With the Stars continuing to lose wickets at regular intervals, captain Darren Sammy smashed a quickfire 25 to help his side finish on 118/9 off their 20 overs.

Cooper was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while skipper Dwayne Bravo snapped up two, and Shadab, Pierre and Sunil Narine chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 119 to win, the Knight Riders struggled from the get-go as they lost wickets at regular intervals.

With Shane Shillingford ripping through the Knight Riders’ top and middle order, they quickly found themselves in a spot of bother at 75/6.

However, Shadab and Javon Scantlebury-Searles not only came to the rescue, but finished things off as they put together an unbeaten 45-run partnership.

Shadab ended up making 30 off 33 balls, which included a boundary and a six, while Scantlebury-Searles remained undefeated on 27 off 20 deliveries, which included two boundaries and two sixes.

Shillingford was the most successful bowler with four wickets, while Mitchell McClenaghan and Kyle Mayers claimed one wicket each.
