The Trinbago Knight Riders got their Caribbean Premier League (CPL) campaign off to a terrific start as the New Zealand duo of Colin Munro and Brendon McCullum led to them to a nine-wicket win over the St Lucia Stars.

Munro smashed a fantastic 66 not out, while former New Zealand captain McCullum hammered an unbeaten 58.

Opting to bowl first, the Knight Riders got rid of Johnson Charles and Kamran Akmal early on to leave the Stars struggling at 27/2 in the fourth over.

However, just as the Stars were beginning to rebuild their innings, Marlon Samuels fell for 13, while Andre Fletcher followed soon after for 26.

With the Stars continuing to lose wickets in a hurry, Kyle Mayers struck a 15-ball 23 to help his side finish on 132/9 off their 20 overs.

Captain Dwayne Bravo and Shadab Khan picked up two wickets apiece, while Kevon Cooper, Ronsford Beaton and Khary Pierre chipped in with one wicket each.

Chasing 133 to win, Knight Riders opener Sunil Narine was clean bowled for a duck by Jerome Taylor on the sixth ball of the innings.

However, that was all the success the Stars would have as Munro and McCullum finished things off with an unbeaten 132-run partnership, during which both batsmen surpassed their half-centuries.
