Sri Lanka recall Thirimanne for second Test against India

Thirimanne has not played Test cricket since June 2016

Batsman Lahiru Thirimanne is back in Sri Lanka’s squad for the second Test against India in Colombo.

Thirimanne has not played Test cricket since June last year, but was called up as a replacement for all-rounder Asela Gunaratne, who has been ruled out for the rest of the series after undergoing surgery on his left thumb.

Left-arm spinner Lakshan Sandakan and has also been added to the squad, but pace bowler Suranga Lakmal will miss the match due to a back injury.

Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal will also return for the match in Colombo after he missed the first Test in Galle due to pneumonia.

Sri Lanka lost the first Test by a record-breaking margin of 304 runs and will be looking to level the series in the second Test, which gets underway on Thursday.
