Former Sri Lanka captain Arjuna Ranatunga has claimed that the 2011 World Cup final between India and Sri Lanka was fixed.

Ranatunga admitted that he was mystified by Sri Lanka’s performance during the match, which they lost by six wickets, and demanded that an investigation be launched.

“Sangakkara wants an inquiry into the tour of Pakistan then they should have one,” he said. “But I think we should also inquire into what happened to the Sri Lanka team during the 2011 World Cup final. I think this is something that the Sports Minister should look into rather than concentrating on fitness issues.

“I was on the panel of commentators during this World Cup final, and I was really disappointed with Sri Lanka’s performance.

“I cannot reveal what happened on that day, but I would someday reveal the truth. So, I think we should hold an inquiry into this matter.”

In the final, Sri Lanka made 274/6 off their 50 overs thanks to Mahela Jayawardene’s unbeaten 103. In response, Gautam Gambhir and then-captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni made 97 and 91 not out respectively to lead India to victory with 10 balls to spare.
