South Africa head coach Russell Domingo had to rush back home after his mother was admitted to hospital in critical condition following a car accident in Port Elizabeth.

Domingo’s mother had been travelling alone when the accident occurred.

The 42-year-old has been in England since May as the Proteas played England in a three-match ODI series before competing in the Champions Trophy, where they failed to make it past the group stage.

He was preparing for the second Twenty20 International against England on Friday when he heard the news.

The third Twenty20 International will be held on Sunday before the four-Test series starts on July 6 at Lord’s.

Domingo’s tenure as head coach will come to an end after the tour of England, but it remains unclear whether he has re-applied for the position.
