Ex-Australia leg-spinner Shane Warne has denied speculation that he was interested in applying for the India head coach job.

Warne, who has expressed interest in the position in the past, said that he was “too expensive” for India.

“I am very expensive, I don’t think they can afford me,” Warne was quoted as saying by mid-day.com. “Virat Kohli and me can have a good partnership, but as I said, I am very, very expensive.”

However, Warne insisted that his comments had been taken out of context as he had said it in a joking manner while in an elevator.

“I was in a lift and was asked if I would put my hat in the ring. I said “India can’t afford me” tongue in cheek,” Warne said on Twitter. “Ps re @imVkohli & I would work well together as a quote, this is totally made up. I never said that to anyone, very disappointing journalism.”
