Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was struck on the head while batting in the nets during a training session at Lord’s on Wednesday.
Maxwell was hit by a local net bowler and was immediately checked on by his team-mates, the bowler and team doctor Peter Brukner before proceeding to exit the nets.
Brukner focused his check-up on Maxwell’s jaw and neck and even though it was confirmed that the 28-year-old has escaped any serious injury, he did ice the area where he copped the blow while in the dressing room.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade also suffered a blow to the helmet off the bowling of pace bowler Pat Cummins shortly after, but he was given the all clear to continue batting.
Maxwell and Wade’s hits come just two days prior to Australia’s first Champions Trophy warm-up game against Sri Lanka on Friday.
They will then take on Pakistan on Monday before kicking off their Champions Trophy campaign against New Zealand at Edgbaston on June 2.
