ODI Tri-series 4th Match: Mustafizur, Sarkar demolish Ireland

Mustafizur Rahman carved through Ireland’s batting line-up with a four-wicket haul, while opening batsman Soumya Sarkar smashed an unbeaten 87 as Bangladesh thrashed Ireland by eight wickets in Dublin.

Opting to bowl first, Bangladesh struck on the ninth ball of the match as Mustafizur dismissed opener Paul Stirling for a duck.

Captain William Porterfield managed to make 22 before he was caught and bowled by Mosaddek Hossain.

Andy Balbirnie fell shortly after for 12, but Ed Joyce and wicketkeeper Niall O’Brien stabilised the innings with a 55-run partnership before O’Brien was removed by Mustafizur for 30.

Joyce went on to make 46 off 74 balls, which included three boundaries, before he was sent packing by debutant Sunzamul Islam.

Once Joyce was gone, Ireland completely collapsed as they went from 126/5 to being bowled out for 181.

Mustafizur was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Sunzamul and captain Mashrafe Mortaza snapped up two wickets apiece. Mosaddek and Shakib Al Hasan, meanwhile, chipped in with one wicket each.

Chasing 182 to win, Bangladesh got off to a brilliant start as Tamim Iqbal and Sarkar amassed a 95-run partnership before Iqbal was caught behind off the bowling of Kevin O’Brien for 47.

Sarkar and Sabbir Rahman kept the runs flowing with a 76-run stand, during which Sarkar sailed past his fifty, before Sabbir was dismissed by Barry McCarthy for 35.

Sarkar went on to make 87 not out, which came off 68 balls and included 11 boundaries and two sixes, as Bangladesh won the match with 137 balls to spare.

O’Brien and McCarthy claimed one wicket each.

Mustafizur was named Man of the Match.
