India have brought Dinesh Karthik into their Champions Trophy squad as a replacement for batsman Manish Pandey, who has been ruled out of the tournament with a left side strain.

Pandey sustained the injury while training ahead of the Kolkata Knight Riders’ Indian Premier League (IPL) eliminator against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Karthik, who has played 71 ODIs to date, was part of the India team that won the last edition of the Champions Trophy in 2013.

The 31-year-old has scored 1,313 runs in the 50-over format at an average of 27.93, but last played ODI cricket in March 2014.
