The Rising Pune Supergiants confirmed their spot in the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs after skittling the Kings XI Punjab out for 73 in their nine-wicket win.

To add insult to injury, the Kings XI failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Opting to bowl first, the Supergiants started the match in the best possible way as Jaydev Unadkat removed Martin Guptill on the first ball.

Things only went downhill from that point on as Shardul Thakur ripped through the top order with a three-wicket haul.

With Dan Christian and Adam Zampa also joining the party, the Kings XI were given no respite and ended up being bundled out for a dismal 73.

Thakur was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Unadkat, Christian and Zampa chipped in with two wickets apiece.

Chasing 74 to win, the Supergiants got off to a solid start before opener Rahul Tripathi was clean bowled by Axar Patel for 28.

Ajinkya Rahane and captain Steve Smith mopped up the remaining runs to lead their side to victory with eight overs to spare.

Rahane finished on 34 off 34 balls, which included a boundary and a six, while Smith remained undefeated on 15.

Patel was the only bowler to take a wicket.

Unadkat was named Man of the Match.
