Rahul Tripathi hammered a magnificent 93 as the Rising Pune Supergiants beat the Kolkata Knight Riders by four wickets.
Choosing to bowl first, the Supergiants struck on the sixth ball of the match as Knight Riders opener Sunil Narine was caught and bowled by Jaydev Unadkat for a duck.
Sheldon Jackson fell shortly after for 10, while captain Gautam Gambhir was removed by Washington Sundar for 24.
To make matters worse, Yusuf Pathan was trapped lbw off the bowling of Imran Tahir for four runs.
Just as the Knight Riders were beginning to recover, Manish Pandey was sent packing for 37.
Colin de Grandhomme added a quickfire 36, while Suryakumar Yadav made an unbeaten 30 as the Knight Riders finished on 155/8 off their 20 overs.
Unadkat and Sundar picked up two wickets apiece, while Tahir, Dan Christian and Ben Stokes chipped in with one wicket each.
Chasing 156 to win, the Supergiants lost opening batsman Ajinkya Rahane early on as he was caught behind off the bowling of Umesh Yadav for 11.
Just when the Supergiants had made up for the loss of Rahane, Chris Woakes struck twice as he clean bowled captain Steve Smith and Manoj Tiwary for nine and eight runs respectively.
Even though Stokes and wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni failed to have an impact with the bat, Tripathi continued to keep the Supergiants in the game.
However, just when the Supergiants were within touching distance of victory, the 26-year-old was dismissed by Woakes for 93, which came off 52 balls and included nine boundaries and seven sixes.
Despite Tripathi’s dismissal, the Supergiants went on to win the match with four balls to spare.
Woakes was the most successful bowler with three wickets, while Yadav, Narine and Kuldeep Yadav claimed one wicket each.
Tripathi was named Man of the Match.
