Hashim Amla continued to impress with the bat as he hammered a brilliant 65 to help the Kings XI Punjab defeat the Gujarat Lions by 26 runs.

Choosing to bowl first, the Lions only had to wait eight balls to get their first wicket as Manan Vohra was caught behind off the bowling of Nathu Singh for two runs.

Amla and Shaun Marsh revived the innings with a 70-run partnership before Marsh was dismissed by Andrew Tye for 30.

Amla went on to make 65 off 40 balls, which included nine boundaries and two sixes, before he was caught and bowled by Shubham Agarwal.

Once Amla out out, the Kings XI began to lose wickets at regular intervals, but thanks to captain Glenn Maxwell’s 31 and Axar Patel’s 34, the Kings XI finished on 188/7 off their 20 overs.

Tye was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Agarwal, Singh, Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Smith chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 189 to win, Lions opener Brendon McCullum fell on the sixth ball of the innings as he was trapped lbw off the bowling of Sandeep Sharma.

Just as the Lions were beginning to rebuild their innings, Sandeep struck again as he removed Aaron Finch for 13.

Following Finch’s dismissal, the Lions lost wickets at a steady rate and were unable to recover.

Wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik did his best to keep his side in the game, but his valiant knock of 58 not out, which came off 44 balls and included six boundaries, went in vain.
