Bangladesh off-spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz will feature in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) for the first time after the Trinbago Knight Riders signed him to replace veteran Australia spinner Brad Hogg.

However, Mehedi may miss the first few games of the tournament since he will be representing Bangladesh in their home series against Pakistan.

Nonetheless, the 19-year-old is delighted to have been offered the opportunity to play in the CPL.

“I am really happy to have got this opportunity,” Mehedi said. “I will get to play with really good cricketers in that tournament. It will improve my standard of cricket.”

Mehedi has only played seven Test matches, three ODIs and one Twenty20 International to date, but has already made his presence felt.

The Khulna native has taken 35 wickets in Tests at an average of 31.80 and four wickets in ODIs at an average of 35.50.

He is also a handy batsman as he has scored a fifty in both formats.
