Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza’s final Twenty20 International ended in triumph as all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan scored 38 and took three wickets to lead the team to a 45-run win over Sri Lanka.

Mortaza confirmed that he would be retiring from the format after the series concluded, and while the win was a fitting way to close the final chapter on his Twenty20 International career, it was also a huge win for Bangladesh as it ended the series as a 1-1 draw.

Choosing to bat first, Bangladesh made a strong start to their innings as Imrul Kayes and Soumya Sarkar amassed a 71-run partnership before Sarkar was caught and bowled by Asela Gunaratne for 34.

Kayes went on to make 36 runs before he was run out by stand-in captain Upul Tharanga.

Just as Bangladesh were beginning to rebuild their innings, Sabbir Rahman was clean bowled by Vikum Sanjaya for 19, while Shakib was cleaned up by Nuwan Kulasekara for 38.

Mosaddek Hossain managed to make 17 before Lasith Malinga claimed a hat-trick as he removed Mushfiqur Rahim, Mortaza and debutant Mehedi Hasan Miraz in successive deliveries.

With Mohammad Saifuddin falling on the final ball of the innings, Bangladesh finished on 176/9 off their 20 overs.

Malinga was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Kulasekara, Sanjaya, Gunaratne and Thisara Perera chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 177 to win, Sri Lanka found themselves in trouble early on as Shakib took out Kusal Perera and Dilshan Munaweera before Mahmudullah got rid of Tharanga for 23.

To make matters worse, Mustafizur Rahman dismissed Gunaratne and Milinda Siriwardana in successive deliveries to leave the hosts in dire straits at 40/5.

Chamara Kapugedara and Thisara stemmed the bleeding with a 58-run partnership before Thisara was stumped by Rahim off the bowling of Shakib for 27.

Sri Lanka continued to crumble after Thisara was gone and they were ultimately bowled out for 131.

Mustafizur was the most successful bowler with four wickets, while Shakib snapped up three and Mortaza, Mahmudullah and Saifuddin claimed one wicket each.

Shakib was named Man of the Match, while Malinga received the Man of the Series award.
