India and Royal Challengers Bangalore opener Lokesh Rahul has been ruled out of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a shoulder injury.
Rahul sustained the injury in the first Test of India’s recent series against Australia and is set to travel to London to undergo surgery, according to a source in the Royal Challengers franchise.
Rahul’s absence will be a big blow for the Royal Challengers in two ways. The first is that he is coming off a sensational series against the Baggy Greens, where he scored 393 runs, which included six half-centuries, at an average of 65.50.
The second reason why the Royal Challengers will miss the 24-year-old can be attributed to the fact that he is the second high-profile player to be sidelined with an injury.
Captain Virat Kohli is currently nursing a right shoulder problem, but he is only expected to miss the first few games of the tournament.
In last year’s IPL, Rahul played in 14 matches and accumulated 397 runs, which included four fifties, at an average of 44.11.
