The Rising Pune Supergiants have been dealt a huge blow as spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will miss the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a sports hernia.
Ashwin initially sustained the injury after India’s Test series against England in December, but continued to play on.
Ashwin is expected to be out of action for six to eight weeks, but is set to be fit for the Champions Trophy in England in June.
The 30-year-old is coming off a hectic home season, in which he played 13 Test matches and bowled 738.2 overs, which is the most by a bowler in a season. However, he had plenty of success in that period of time as he broke the record for the most wickets in a season with 82.
In last year’s IPL, Ashwin picked up 10 wickets at an average of 31.90 in 14 matches.
