Pace bowler Umesh Yadav and the spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja claimed three wickets apiece to skittle Australia out for 137 and leave India just 87 runs away from a series win in Dharamsala.

Starting off the day on 248/6, Jadeja and wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha converted their 27-run partnership into a 96-run stand, during which Jadeja brought up his half-century.

What made the partnership more important was the fact that India took the lead. But, after their lead increased to 17, Jadeja’s resistance at the crease was ended when he was clean bowled by Pat Cummins for 63, which came off 95 balls and included four boundaries and four sixes.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar failed to trouble the scorers as he was dismissed by Steve O’Keefe for a duck, while Saha went on to make 31 before falling to Cummins.

India ended up being bowled out for 332, which gave them a 32-run lead, when debutant Kuldeep Yadav was removed by Nathan Lyon for seven runs.

Lyon was the pick of the bowlers with five wickets, while Cummins snapped up three and O’Keefe and Josh Hazlewood chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Trailing by 32 runs, Australia found themselves in all sorts of trouble early on as David Warner, captain Steve Smith and Matt Renshaw were dismissed in quick succession.

Peter Handscomb and Glenn Maxwell temporarily stemmed the bleeding with a 56-run partnership before India struck twice as Ashwin took out Handscomb for 18, while Jadeja sent Shaun Marsh packing for just one run.

Marsh was only going to bat if required as he injured his back while fielding earlier on in the day.

Maxwell went on to make 45 before being given out lbw off the bowling of Ashwin. Once he was gone, Jadeja sparked Australia’s lower order collapse and they were ultimately skittled out for 137, which set India a target of 106 to win.

Jadeja, Ashwin and Umesh took three wickets apiece, while Kumar got one.

Chasing 106 to win, Lokesh Rahul and Murali Vijay put together an unbeaten 19-run stand before stumps was called.

Rahul finished on 13 off 18 balls, which included three boundaries, while Vijay remained undefeated on six.

India ended day three on 19/0 and will continue batting on Tuesday at 09:30 local time or 04:00 GMT.
