Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell will captain the Kings XI Punjab in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which begins on April 5.

Maxwell replaces Murali Vijay, who led the Kings XI midway through the last season after David Miller was stripped of the leadership role due to the team losing five of their first six games.

Even though Vijay captained the franchise, it did not stop them from finishing last for the second successive year.

In those two IPL seasons, Maxwell has failed to have much of an impact as he has scored 324 runs, which included two half-centuries, in 22 matches.

In 2014, it was a whole different story as Maxwell amassed 552 runs in 16 matches at a strike-rate of 187.75 to guide the Kings XI to their first final.
