Australia opener Matt Renshaw left the field on Thursday against Pakistan in Sydney after he copped a blow to the helmet while fielding at short leg.
The incident occurred in the 77th over of Pakistan’s innings and saw wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed strike a delivery from spinner Steve O’Keefe right into Renshaw’s helmet.
The 20-year-old stayed on the field for two more overs before heading back to the dressing room. As a result, he was replaced by local substitute fielder Nic Bills.
“Matthew complained of a headache,” Brukner said. “He came off the ground to rest and is having an ongoing assessment of his condition.”
This was the second time that Renshaw had been hit in the helmet in the ongoing Test match, with the other occurrence coming on the opening day when was struck on the grille of his helmet after failing to evade a bouncer from Pakistan left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir.
Renshaw was the second Australian player to leave the field on Thursday as wicketkeeper Matthew Wade returned to the team hotel due to an illness after being on the field for just two overs.
