Daniel Christian ripped through the Adelaide Strikers’ batting line-up with a five-wicket haul, while D’Arcy Short smashed 60 to lead the Hobart Hurricanes to a seven-wicket win.

Being put in to bat first, the Strikers got off to brisk start courtesy of opener Ben Dunk, but that came to a screeching halt when he was clean bowled by Simon Milenko for a 17-ball 31.

Jonathan Dean and Jake Weatherald followed soon after before Travis Head and skipper Brad Hodge somewhat stemmed the bleeding with a 48-run partnership.

Christian provided the breakthrough as he removed Head for 24 before he proceeded to slice through the Strikers’ lower order with the help of Clive Rose and Stuart Broad.

Thanks to Hodge’s 55, which came off 45 balls and included two boundaries and three sixes, the Strikers managed to make 143 before being bowled out.

Christian was easily the pick of the bowlers with five wickets, while Milenko snapped up two and Rose and Broad chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 144 to win, the Hurricanes made a superb start to their innings as Short and captain Tim Paine amassed a 105-run partnership, during which Short raced past his half-century, before he was caught behind off the bowling of Billy Stanlake for 60, which came off 39 balls and included seven boundaries and three sixes.

Stanlake and Head claimed one wicket each.

Christian was named Man of the Match.
