Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Executive Committee Chairman Najam Sethi has revealed that the West Indies have been invited to tour Pakistan for a two-match Twenty20 series in March.
Pakistan have not played any international cricket on home soil, barring a short limited overs series against Zimbabwe in May 2015, after the Sri Lankan national team’s bus was attacked by armed militants in March 2009.
Should the West Indies accept the PCB’s offer to tour the country, Sethi confirmed that the national team would play two Twenty20 Internationals against the men from the Caribbean in Florida by the end of March.
“We gave a proposal to WICB that after West Indies’ tour to England, which will end on March 9, they can come to Pakistan between March 11 to 15,” he told Dawn.
Sethi added that the West Indies Players’ Association are concerned about the security situation in Pakistan, but he pointed out that the PCB are in contact with them to try and alleviate their fears.
“We told them that the security situation had improved and Pakistan Super League final will also be played in Lahore. In this scenario, there is no reason to refuse a tour to Pakistan,” Sethi said. “If the PSL final is held in Lahore, followed by World T20 Champions visit to play T20s in Lahore then this development will open the door of international cricket in Pakistan.”
