Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has been fined 40 per cent of his match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate in the second Test against Australia in Melbourne.

The move adds adds insult to injury for Misbah and his team-mates, who were each docked 20 per cent of their match fee, after they collapsed on the final day to hand Australia an unlikely innings and 18-run win. As a result of their victory, Australia now hold an unassailable 2-0 lead going into the third Test in Sydney.

Misbah was found to be two overs short of the required target by match referee Ranjan Madugalle after time considerations had been taken into effect.

Since the 42-year-old accepted the charge, there will be no need for a formal hearing, but he will have to be much more careful in the future as Pakistan have now been fined for a slow over-rate offence in three of their last four Tests.
