Australia captain Steven Smith has expressed his displeasure towards the packed summer schedule due to the fact that he will be forced to miss the Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka in February.

Smith and the rest of the Test team will not be available for selection for the Twenty20 series as they will be in India preparing for the four-Test series. In fact, the third and final Twenty20 International takes place just a day before Australia begin their Test series against India in Pune on February 23.

“I don’t think it’s ideal,” Smith told ABC Grandstand. “I think the Australian public would love to see the best Australian team on the park for every game. It’s difficult to do that with the schedule and how much we play.”

Smith also insisted he doesn’t mind that Justin Langer will coach the Twenty20 team for the series against Sri Lanka as the most important thing is to win.

“In T20 cricket, we play games on and off, here and there,” he said. “For me, the most important thing is that we win major tournaments in that format of the game, and that’s the World Cup.”
