Oman cricketer and Batting with Bimal columnist Sufyan Mehmood will represent the World Stars in a pair of matches against the Qatar Stars.

A Twenty20 and 50-over game will be held on December 16 and 18 respectively at the Asian Town Cricket Stadium in Doha as part of Qatar’s national day celebrations.

Being part of the World Stars team, Sufyan will have the honour of playing alongisde some of the greatest names to ever grace the cricket field, including legendary Sri Lanka left-arm seamer Chaminda Vaas and the Pakistan duo of Shahid Afridi and Saeed Ajmal.

In an exclusive interview with Batting with Bimal, Sufyan opens up about his thoughts ahead of the tournament and also explains how it can help increase the popularity of cricket in his native Oman.

BM: How did you get the opportunity to play in the tournament?

SM: I was invited by the International Cricketers Association as im the only Arab cricketer right now in the region.

BM: How does it feel to be selected for such a big event?

SM: It feels amazing and I’m really looking forward to it.

BM: You will be playing alongside some major cricketing stars, how excited are you about this?

SM: Oh yes again, it feels fantastic because these are some of the legends of the game and it will surely help me learn more from them.

BM: Which cricketer are you most looking forward to playing with and why?

SM: Well not individually anyone but all of them as they all are from Test playing nations and have a lot of international experience.

BM: How will your participation in the event help Oman cricket?

SM: It will help Oman cricket a lot as I will be able to share my experience with current and future national players

BM: This tournament is against the Qatar Stars, do you feel it would benefit Oman if the national team played a World Stars side?

SM: Well for an Associate nation like us, playing against a World Stars team would always help us to learn more and would give us more exposure which is always beneficial for us.

And lastly, I am thankful to my board for giving me this opportunity to play abroad. I am also very grateful to the International Cricketers Association for inviting me for such a huge event.
