Australia batsman Adam Voges has been diagnosed with a concussion after he was struck on the helmet while batting for Western Australia in their Sheffield Shield game against Tasmania on Thursday.

Voges was unbeaten on 16 when he suffered the blow to the side of the helmet by a bouncer from Tasmania pace bowler Cameron Stevenson.

Voges had to be helped off the field and despite Western Australia confirming that he hadn’t sustained a serious injury, it was confirmed that he would play no further part in the match.

“Voges has been diagnosed with concussion. He is ok, naturally a bit groggy. Being monitored by medicos. Ruled out of rest of game,” Western Australia said via Twitter.

The 37-year-old also suffered a concussion earlier this year when he was hit on the head by a throw while fielding for Middlesex in their County Championship clash with Hampshire in May.

Voges’ injury comes just a week before the third and final Test match against South Africa in Adelaide. However, as of now, it remains to be seen whether he will be fit enough to feature in the match or whether he will even be selected as his place in Australia’s Test squad has come under intense scrutiny as of late.
