England pace bowler James Anderson has revealed that fellow seamer Stuart Broad was suffering from the effects of a foot injury on the first day of the second Test against India in Visakhapatnam.

Broad started the match with a bang as he dismissed India opener Lokesh Rahul with his fifth ball, but he began limping as the day progressed.

While Anderson is uncertain how severe Broad’s injury is, he is hoping that the 30-year-old will fit enough to bowl on the second day.

“Stuart has got a bit of a foot problem,” Anderson told Sky Sports. “He’s been a bit in the wars – he’s got a graze on his arm as well, so he’s nursing those.

“I thought he did really well to get through the day. We don’t know how serious his foot is but he ran in really well and hopefully he’ll be fresh for us in the morning.”

In regards to his own fitness, Anderson, who was making his return after recovering from a shoulder injury, admitted that he didn’t feel any discomfort when he was bowling. The 34-year-old was by far England’s best bowler on the opening day as he took three of the four Indian wickets that fell.

“The body feels alright so far. It might be a different story at 7am,” he added. “I got through the day without any drama and hopefully I will have a good night’s sleep and come back fresh tomorrow.

“I think it probably took me a little bit of time to get into the spells because of a bit of stiffness but once I did I felt fine.”
